Technology Integration
St. Charles Parish School subscribes to a developmental approach to technology integration. Younger students are exposed to technology in a teacher-directed environment, slowly learning basic skills and building a toolbox of technology skills. As students grow they are increasingly expected to apply various skills to accomplish complex tasks, including creating presentations, graphics, websites, and typed papers.
Beginning in 3K and 4K teachers utilize audio and visual aids to enhance lessons in numeracy, alphabetic knowledge, and thematic units. In 5K students begin to practice basic computer skills such as mouse control and arrow keys. In first grade students create their first presentation, including text and graphics. Students in second grade begin to learn essential functions of Google Classroom and simple navigation skills. Third grade students learn how to type and continue to practice basic computer applications. In fourth and fifth grade students learn how to utilize online resources to aid in studying and conduct research for projects and reports. In middle school students have one-to-one access to a chromebook throughout the day. They utilize a wide range of tools and resources available online to access new information, practice skills, create original work and collaborate with peers on projects. Students also manage their own in-house email with teachers.
